Malaysia-Thailand Business Council

About Malaysia-Thailand Business Council (MTBC)

The Malaysia-Thailand Business Council (MTBC) was established on 28 February 2013 through an MOU signed in the presence of both Ms Yingluck Shinawatra, Thai Prime Minister and YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The Malaysia-Thailand Business Council was established as a government supported bilateral private sector initiative to take forward the objectives of both governments to establish sustainable economic and industrial growth through the encouragement of the Malaysia-Thailand private sector partnerships.

The establishment of the Malaysia-Thailand Business Council (MTBC) and Thailand-Malaysia Business Council (TMBC) are welcomed and relevant in the context of promoting private sector cooperation through joint venture and enhancing two-way trade and investment flows. The Business Council is seen as a channel to voice issues, if any, to both governments on any difficulties faced in bilateral trade and investment.

MTBC Objectives

There are six objectives for the MTBC and TMBC, namely

1. To identify obstacles to trade and economic cooperation and submit proposals for overcoming the obstacles to their respective governments;

2. To collect statistical data and information on opportunities in trade, investment and other forms of economic cooperation which will be conveyed to member companies;

3. To support the organization of exhibitions and trade fairs and encourage member participation in these activities,

4. To encourage cooperation between private sector companies in Malaysia and Thailand;

5. To encourage two-way trade and investment;
